Anna Osborne
Anna graduated from Wimbledon School of Art in 2008 and after studying and painting in the south of France is currently living in her hometown of Cardiff and painting at the Kings Road Studios in Pontcanna.

My most recent series of oil paintings have been inspired by my 6 month stay in Antibes, a town in the south of France; my studio was a converted flower-nursery that was also brimming with miscellaneous theatre props, old sets and vintage costumes.
I love discovering new strange objects out of place in their surroundings which no longer have a purpose- and maybe never did. It is exciting to rummage through to find for example –a stuffed animal head, a china teapot, a broken lamp in an old trunk, all sitting together, with no everyday order or function. I have come to simply view them as intriguing compositions made from curving, twisting, voluptuous shapes which I explore in my application of the wet oil paint onto canvas.
My source material is a combination of collaged magazine and my own photographic imagery. I apply this visual structure loosely onto the canvas using oil paint. This process of painting requires a series of intuitive decisions as I apply each layer of paint with the brush. Some areas have a tactile surface whilst other areas are thinly layered allowing subtle remnants of previous layers of paint to be seen.
